The production of banana developed by the Cooperative is carried out in four properties located, three of them in Laurel of Corredores, province of Puntarenas. These properties called Caucho, Caimito and Tamarindo are located in the South Zone of Costa Rica in the border with Panama. The fourth property called Algarva, is located in Cariari de Pococí, province of Limon in the Atlantic area of the country.
The four properties are located in marginalized areas, of low development and high emigration, reasons why the activity of the Cooperative is of great importance and impact to the surrounding communities. In total, the cooperative maintains close to 300 hectares of land dedicated to the banana production, which offers work to almost two hundred people.
The labors of packing and harvesting of the banana are made by the Cooperative of Services of the South R.L. (COOPESERSUR R.L.), organization composed mainly by ex- workers of COOPETRABASUR, freely and democratically constituted under the cooperative figure.
The totality of the production of banana of COOPETRABASUR R.L. that ascends approximately to 600,000 boxes in the South zone and 125,000 boxes in the Atlantic zone is registered under the standards of Fair Commerce with FLO (Fair Trade Labelling Organization), Eurepgap and ISO 9001. |
